According to Sony No New PSVR Will Coincide with Next Generation Console Release
Recently we’ve come to know more and more about what to expect with the next generation of PlayStation console and in a recent interview with CNET Sony’s Dominic Mallinson talked about the upcoming console, as well as the future of the PlayStation VR. As it turns out, they might not drop hand in hand.
So it seems that while the ‘PlayStation 5’ will support ray-tracing, 8K graphics and shorter load times for games, it may not necessarily support a brand new VR headset…at least not right away. According to Sony’s Dominic Mallinson, Global Head of R&D for PlayStation, much like the backwards compatibility offered for the PS4, fans of the the current VR headset can rest easy as it’s going to be compatible with the next PlayStation console as well. Additionally he talked about the direction they’re discussing for the new VR headset, “We do want it to
As it stands however, there won’t be a brand new headset for a while, which is inclusive of the new console’s launch. Mallinson told CNET the reason behind this move stating, “There’s no reason for us to coincide it with a new console. From the point of view of the consumer, to be bombarded with many, many things – oh, you have to buy this, you have to buy that – is a message that we don’t want to send. In some ways, it’s good to have a little breathing space between those things.”
